Story No. 5: Remembering Why I Became a Doctor

Life Event

I’m a doctor!  I can’t believe I made it, it’s been such a long journey.  I know the profession can be hard at times and I wanted to keep perspective on why I first wanted to become a doctor.  On the day of my graduation from Penn, I wrote myself a letter to future me 3 years from now.  I detailed all the reasons I became a doctor and the hope that I will always be empathic and passionate.  I want to ensure I carry the same excitement I had the first day I walked into the hospital three, ten, and twenty years from now.  The letter to future me will help remind me of who I am and how proud I should be to be where I am.
